Our History
Pontoon Works has evolved rapidly since its launch in 2007; branding an unequalled hire service for floating platforms. We provide a smooth professional and knowledgeable service when it comes to accessing and utilising space on water.
Although our comprehensive hire service is relatively new to the UK, Pontoon Works has its roots stemming back over a 35year history in the form of Jetfloat UK; previously the sales arm for Jetfloat International.
Chris Murphy, the Managing Director, has worked with the Jetfloat system since the mid nineties, firstly doing marine coordination and props for large film productions combined with the role of First Mate on a Tall Ship also used for film work.
In 2005 he was offered the Jetfloat distributorship, an opportunity that has enabled him to realise for the first time the full potential of the Jetfloat system. Along with his Marine experience Chris had an 11 year career in Illustration, working for MOD engineers in Barrow-In-Furness and later in Plymouth, these combined skills are the back bone of the company today.
Our team has grown considerably over the past four years and we are still creating new roles as the company continues expand. We have increased our office space at the Old Glove Factory and bought a new depot in Somerset enabling us to substantially increase our stock and distribution. Our growth to date has been largely organic but we are now in a position to actively promote the range of services we are currently able to provide.
For two years we enlisted the help of the Dorset Mentoring scheme “DORMEN” where an industry expert is assigned to your business to guide you through extreme changes; in our case rapid growth. We are now running solo again but have appointed a CEO, a Financial Director and a Chairman to secure and guide the long term strategy of the business, leaving the original technical experts at the disposal of our clients.
